The short answer

What this treatment is

Every appointment starts with a full musculoskeletal assessment: history, movement analysis, and a working diagnosis. Treatment combines manual therapy with progressive exercise rehabilitation — the combination NICE guidance recommends for low back pain, neck pain, shoulder problems, and most common MSK conditions. You leave with a written plan covering what we did, why, and what to do between sessions.

Areas treated

What's included

  • HCPC-registered physiotherapists with CSP membership — the regulated UK clinical standard
  • Combined manual therapy + exercise rehab approach (NICE-aligned)
  • Six central London locations — same clinical team across all sites
  • Most major health insurers accepted (Bupa, AXA, Vitality, Aviva, Cigna, WPA)
  • Direct booking via Jane App — no GP referral required
  • Written treatment plan and home exercise programme after every session

Boundaries of practice

What's not treated

Good practice means saying no when indicated:

  • Active fracture, dislocation, or unhealed surgical wound in the area being treated
  • Suspected cauda equina syndrome (loss of bladder/bowel control with back pain) — go to A&E
  • Suspected DVT in a limb — requires GP/hospital review before manual therapy
  • Active malignancy in the area being treated without oncologist clearance
  • Severe uncontrolled hypertension or cardiovascular instability

Common
questions

Do I need a GP referral to see a physiotherapist?

No. UK physiotherapists are first-contact practitioners — you can book a private appointment directly via our Jane App booking page or by calling 0203 004 8500. If you are using private health insurance, your provider may require a GP referral; check your policy. Self-funded patients never need a referral.

How many sessions will I need?

Most acute injuries resolve within 3–6 sessions over 4–8 weeks. Chronic conditions (long-standing low back pain, recurring tendinopathy, post-surgical rehab) typically need 6–12 sessions. We discuss a realistic course of treatment at your first appointment and reassess at every visit. We are not interested in selling sessions you do not need.

What should I wear and bring to my appointment?

Loose, comfortable clothing that allows movement and lets us assess the area being treated — shorts for lower-limb problems, a vest top for shoulder or neck issues. We have private treatment rooms and gowns where needed. Bring any relevant scan or test results, your insurer details if applicable, and any medications you are currently taking.

Which insurers do you accept?

We accept most major UK health insurers including Bupa, AXA Health, Vitality, Aviva, Cigna, WPA, Healix, and Simplyhealth. Your appointment can be paid through your insurer with prior authorisation — please obtain this before booking. We can also issue receipts for self-funded claims.

Is physiotherapy safe during pregnancy?

Yes — antenatal physiotherapy is safe at every stage of pregnancy when delivered by an MSK-trained physiotherapist. We commonly treat pelvic girdle pain, low back pain, and rib pain in pregnancy, and prepare patients for birth and post-natal recovery. Several of our team have specific antenatal experience; mention pregnancy when booking so we can match you appropriately.
